RED CASHEW PLANTED BY BIRD GROWING IN MY MINI-GARDEN ....also foreign yam plant in mini-garden producing aerial seeds

Like the Indian Almond tree now fruiting; red cashew has been planted in my mini-garden by a bird. It is now in seedling stage. It  initially sprouted in a bucket with other plants. So I prepared a sack,, packed soil with  my super gecko-muscles! and transplanted the seedling.

Before transplanting, I took photos of the seedling and searched online to identify it. I did that many times to be sure and  ascertained it is red cashew tree seedling.

II searched and saw the red cashew fruits are lushiously bright-red fruits. I do hope this cashew plant would produce such luxurious red fruits o.

Through interactions with friends on social media, I was informed the Indian Almond is not regarded as the real almond. So I read about almonds and found out that the best almonds grow in the Middle East - in fact Afghanistan almond is considered the best in the world but not so widely available as the Californian almonds which is therefore considered best almond globally. .

Anyway, the three year-old Indian Almond tree growing in my mini-garden is edible just that the taste is not as great as the Afghan or Californian almond - I read. But from my studies, every part of my garden almond tree has a whole lot of medicinal benefits.

Cachew also has lots of health benefits apart from the fruits and nuts being so delightsome to eat.

According to Lybrate online,

Health Benefits of Cashews include:

Cashews prevent heart disease. ...

Cashews reduce the risk of diabetes. ...

Cashews work as a Cancer Chemopreventive Agent. ...

Cashews promote the development of Red Blood Cells (RBCs) ...

Cashews reduce the risk of anemia. ...

Cashews boost bone and oral health. ...

Cashews prevent gallstones.

So by Year 2026/2027 I look forward to red cashew fruits with the nuts. Let me start gathering funds to get a big drum to plant it in

OTHER GIST

One of the foreign purple water yams I planted in my garden few months ago is now producing yam seed  - the yam bulbis or seed  (very small size yams)grows on the stems around the leaves  at the top of the plant.

The actual yam to be eaten is growing underneath - inside the soil. The beauty of this is - as a farmer, you don't need to use out of the yams harvested to be sold or eaten to cultivate another set of yams. This foreign yam plant produces seed(s) separate from the main yam  grown in the ground.

I have sighted just one seed yam on this plant but seems the plant should normally produce multiple seeds - I think that's what Fruithunter - the lady farmer that gave me the yam seeds I planted said.

BIRDS DROPPING SEEDS IN MY MINI-GARDEN
Apart  from the almond and cashew seeds the birds have sown, they also drop seeds on the ground. I sighted one of such seed a few days ago Areca nut seed  and I have planted it - since I am not sure if I would be lucky to have a bird plant it. I will talk about Areca nuts another day.

I wish these birds would bring not only Asian seeds but seeds from Middle East and Western countries 😂 - I have become Oliver Twist  asking for more.  Most farmers spend a whole lot in buying  foreign seeds and seedlings, so you can imagine how excited I am to get free seeds from birds. But why are these birds bringing only Indian plant seeds?

HARVESTED FIRST ALMOND FRUIT FROM TREE GROWING IN DRUM

This morning I plucked one of the few almond fruits on the three-year old almond tree in my mini-garden.

I never get tired of telling the story of how this almond plant must have been cultivated for me by a bird three years ago😂. The growth of the tree has been phenomenal  - it has survived odds, even growing  to a sizable tree in same drum with other crops -yam, turmeric, ginger.

The leaves  of the almond  tree have been very useful as wraps for food like moin-moin and as manure for other plants in the garden.  The leaves can be boiled and taken as tea or soft drink with sweetener added. Even the chickens relish eating the leaves for vitamins and minerals.

While the leaves of fruit trees have many uses, we all look forward to the fruits. I learnt that the nut inside the almond fruit is as protein-rich as egg.

According to EatingWell online publication, this nut is a powerhouse, offering a range of nutrients, including fibre  and antioxidants, both of which contribute to good heart health.

Almond nuts can be used in making salads, in baking and in making drinks.

When almond fruit ripen very well before plucking, it is a very delightsome fruit snack to eat.

Uuuummm, many human eyes, if not all, are almond-shaped, I am perceiving that eating almond fruit would be good for eye-health - that's mini-garden researcher thinking deep. . .

Should I be thanking the birds that bring powerful seeds into my mini-garden? Well, I don't think these birds do such service selflessly o- they also compete intensely for the fruits when they mature and ripen.

So the next challenge to tackle would be when the fruits ripen, harvesting them before the birds eat them or pluck and take them away - you know they fly and we humans   don't.

But I am excited because it's obvious now that seeds brought by these birds are so powerful, they grow very vigorously - well let me not be selfish sha- maybe I should let the birds take away some fruits or seeds from the tree to bless others like they brought from elsewhere  to bless me.

Oh, how I wish  the birds would bring me pure seeds of avocado  so I wouldn't have to go through the hassles I have been having  with germinating seeds got through humans.

Gardening can be interesting with all these dynamics
