...I would have invited you to join me for this meal but you don't like farming 😁
I was discussing with an elderly lady over the weekend. She was very agitated over the increased spate of scamming through ICT.
She also expressed worry on how scammers have infiltrated a lot of places including faith-based worship centres.
We discussed on how even some people who are not scammers have just become desperate as a result of the current harsh economic realities.
Understandably, life can still happen to people who have prepared themselves very well for individual and family responsibilities. They may seek help from others but because they are well-prepared and not lazy, they are not desperate. They will not constitute themselves into societal nuisance or menace whether or not they get desired help.
Also with any help they get even if little, they will also willingly work hard and not act as if they are entitled to what other people have while they indulge in laziness.
Things are no doubt tough economically in many countries but one of the most noticeable problem is many people especially among the younger generations who rather than work hard, prefer to put undue pressures on others to provide basic things like food.
Meanwhile if they have opportunity to farm or do some work in the area of food production, they act as though It is belittling to them.
Yet they expect others to do such work, get the food ready and give to them. They always have excuses on why they can't do such work, as if every one doing such doesn't have excuses on why they cannot.
Some people are indeed very busy and earn so very much that buying food no matter how much it costs is not a problem at all.
But loafers who can barely afford to feed themselves use all sorts of tactics from emotional blackmail to pretences to outright hostilities on individuals, groups or societies to avoid the work and extort from others.
Growing some food won't solve all needs but it would decrease the pressures or desperation of hunger especially for those who claim they have no work or don't earn enough.
But feeding is not even the only reason, there are so very many health benefits to gardening or home farming. People hardly believe me when I say that in that my mini-garden, there is likely no health problem that cannot be tackled or at least alleviated with one or more of the growing plants. I have not taken any conventional medicinal drug since I started gardening over three years ago.
It's not just about saving money on health bills, nobody really wants to be sick even if you have all the money in the world to afford the best of the best treatments.
So when you see some of us express so much excitement over the little harvests that come from the small space we have access to farm, it's not because we like food that much. We are excited at the fruit of Labour that help boost health and decrease desperation.
Even those who are very rich financially do not mind little savings here and there or decreases in their expenditures.
So many people are looking for money to start a small business. Well, cutting costs on feeding by growing some healthy food may help free some funds to start the business.
