...two major reasons
2. HOW AGRICULTURAL RAW MATERIALS FOR DRUGS ARE PRODUCED
Most of the raw or base materials for medicinal drugs are got from agricultural plant and also animal production.
These raw materials are then processed into Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and other components through chemical synthesis or bio-processing to manufacture drugs. There are of course a lot of quality control mechanisms in the supply chains.
According to the BMJ Global Health Journal in a study focusing on the procurement of raw materials and drug manufacturing, it is said, ‘We note the attrition rate among manufacturing companies, cost pressures and weak and variable regulatory oversight that may lead to minimal compliance with the overall effect of producing poorer quality products.’
The writers further said, ‘There is a need to pay increased attention to the risks of regulatory circumvention or minimal compliance in the initial parts of medicine supply chains.’
Also in that journal, according to the World Health Organisation WHO, ‘substandard medicines result from errors, corruption, negligence or poor practice in manufacturing, procurement, regulation, transportation or storage....’
The crux of the statements above is that there might not be compliance to regulatory standards especially in procurement of raw materials.
Agricultural raw materials (from plants and animals) for manufactured drugs just like food need to be devoid of toxic substances to boost health of consumers.
Very high-commercialisation of medicine has no doubt brought the need to mass produce drugs. These require very massive raw materials which mostly come from agricultural production on very regular basis. So, there have to be very massive productions of these agricultural raw materials to meet demands.
Can manufacturers of drugs say with confidence and firm assurance that synthetic growth boosters which can be toxic to users of the medicine are not being used in the production of the agricultural raw materials?
Most highly-commercialised producers of food operate with the mantra, ‘Organic cannot feed the world.’ This is used to justify the use of chemical or synthetic growth boosters in food production.
They may not openly declare that on the production of raw materials for medicines due to the sensitivity to the health industry. But how many producers for the health industry are producing truly fully organic-grown agricultural produce to meet the massive demands of highly-commercislised medicinal productions?
When chemicals or synthetic substances are used in the production of raw materials, they will not only reduce the efficacy of the agricultural raw materials in healing or curing but will also introduce toxic elements.
Even when the drug manufacturers attempt to separate the toxic substances during processing, the agricultural produce would be denatured. This is because the toxic substances have not just been added to the raw materials but have been used in growing them. So the toxins are part of the life of that agricultural produce. Such agricultural raw materials has the ability not only to strengthen the body or boost health but also to damage health.
The efficacy of such agricultural raw materials for the manufactured drugs to cure are thereby reduced by the level or quantity of substances in them that are toxic to the body.
Let’s always remember this formula:
Toxins in – Toxins out = Relief or Good health.
It means the less the Toxins in a person’s body, the more the relief or good health the person will enjoy.
So what happens if the agricultural base materials for drug production already has some levels of toxic substances?
The substances in chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and some drugs for animals are even mostly inorganic substances. These are not just toxic in the body of consumers or users but they do not break down easily. So they will likely pose challenges to the kidney(s) of users. When they build up in a person’s body, they cause serious health damages.
The use of toxic substances in the production of agricultural raw materials would thus make it more and more difficult for medicinal drugs to cure or restore health
